Emerging Tech to Build Web3, Metaverse Capabilities


Emerging technologies across the virtual, augmented, mixed, and extended reality (VR/AR/MR/XR) markets have significantly changed the landscape for immersive solutions, both at the enterprise and personal level, creating an ecosystem of novel, innovative capabilities for the sector.

XR Today spoke to Luis Bravo Martins, Chief Marketing Officer for KIT AR and David A Smith, Founder and Chief Technology Officer for Croquet Corporation on the benefits of integrating and exploring emerging technologies to build client solutions.

KIT-AR’s AI Enabler

When asked about the number of emerging technologies used at their respective companies, Martins explained how KIT-AR provides AR via process mining and artificial intelligence (AI).

His firm’s clients leveraged KIT-AR to accelerate training, onboarding, and quality assurance processes for clients in manufacturing, shop floor, and production lines, allowing them to significantly reduce errors and waste production for such operations.

Explaining further, Martins said,

“Clearly, we don’t want to just talk about technologies to clients, but talk about how the technologies can help them improve their processes, because at the end of the day, we do not want them to change anything. We just want to have something on the side that actually allows them to do their jobs better”

Croquet Cracks the Metaverse

Smith responded by discussing his company’s reflector and virtual machine technologies, which supplied users with tools to interact in the same virtual space, triggering an identical simulation for clients.

Croquet’s reflectors were essential infrastructure for facilitating simulations as they functioned with edge computing running 5G networks, both public and private.

“So when you interact with something that you see in the [virtual space], your message gets sent up to the reflector, which can’t look at it. It’s actually encrypted and all it does is time stamp. That message is then sent to all the participants, and this virtual machine then basically computes the state of the system”

Such processes allowed low-bandwidth, ultra-fast connections with additional end-to-end security, adding: “We’re trusting this as not just an information flow, but also as a communication platform”

He continued, stating that the Metaverse would allow people to have an “augmented conversation where AI is a full participant,” complete with interactive speech for real-time world creation or providing information, leading to the next generation of collaborative decision-making and design.

He concluded that Industry 4.0 would be an “essential part” of learning how to control integrated systems with embedded emerging technologies.

The upcoming XR Summit is set to take place 20-22 September and will feature organisations, startups, accelerators programmes, and major tech giants for a series of round table discussions, panel talks, and other events exploring immersive technologies, the Metaverse, and the future of XR.
