Nreal, Orange to Augment Tour de France ’22

French telecom Orange teamed up with Chinese smart glass maker Nreal for an augmented reality (AR) sporting event of massive proportions, the Tour De France 2022.

Orange collaborated with AR developers Immersive.IO and MATSUKO to create the Augmented Race 2022 experience for viewers of the event to receive AR-powered content and stats with the race footage.

Elbit Systems Unveils X-Sight Helicopter Pilot Helmet

Defence giant Elbit Systems debuted a cutting-edge AR helmet for helicopter pilots, global media reported last week. The US Armed Forces adopted the firm’s X-Sight helmet for its Future Vertical Lift programme to provide advanced visuals for helicopter pilots.

The artificial intelligence-backed helmet includes visuals capable of viewing beyond obstacles such as adverse weather conditions, security threat tracking, and embedded mapping overlays, among others.

UltimateXR Launches Free Open-Source Unity Tool

Enrique Tromp, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of VRMADA, revealed his firm’s free and open-source (FOSS) framework for immersive training experiences for enterprises.

The new solution taps Unity Technologies toolkits for collaboration, interactive gaming, and training. It also provides 3D asset creation services and other linked assets, and is backed by headset manufacturers such as Meta Quest, Pico Interactive, SteamVR, and others.

Metaverse Must Be Interoperable, Human, Hackl Says

XR Today recently interviewed Cathy Hackl, Chief Metaverse Technology Officer for Journey, author, columnist, and ‘Godmother of the Metaverse’ to discuss the future of the successor to the Internet.
