Multiple developments in the extended reality (XR) market have unfolded in the last few weeks, which saw major global firms launch substantial bids to develop and advance Metaverse technologies.

Meta began developing a world-class supercomputer research centre for Metaverse tools and rebrand its’ Quest headset product lineup, while others, including Matterport, Apple, SAP have begun strong drives to adopt or expand their Metaverse solutions as the market rapidly expands.

Matterport, Retail VR Partner for Immersive Shopping

Matterport, a provider of digital transformation solutions, announced a strategic partnership with French firm Retail VR to boost its portfolio of consumer eCommerce solutions as well as reduce costs and time needed for brands seeking digital twin solutions.

According to Retail VR’s Adrien Zanelli, businesses adopting Matterport’s digital twin solutions could “unlock new efficiencies and cost savings” as well as deploy immersive online shopping experiences.

Apple Stocks Soar After Teasing Metaverse Plans

Apple Inc saw its stocks surge last week after hinting at several of its Metaverse ambitions in a first fiscal quarter (Q1) earnings call, where it revealed it had surpassed 14,000 augmented reality (AR) apps along with plans to increase the number of apps in its ecosystem.

Tim Cook, Apple Chief Executive, said at the time more apps were set to join the App Store and, due to potential in AR, the Cupertino-based firm was “investing accordingly” to expand accordingly.

SAP Acquires Taulia in Metaverse Push

Germany’s SAP revealed it planned to buy out US fintech company Taulia for reportedly under $1 billion USD to build business-to-business services aimed at developing the Metaverse.

The acquisition would allow SAP greater access to global customers and to develop Metaverse solutions, supply chains, and working capital management.

Varjo Reality Cloud to Transform Metaverse Tech

XR Today interviewed Urho Konttori, Founder and Chief Technology Officer for Varjo Technologies, to discuss the Finnish firm’s latest update to its Reality Cloud solution.

The news comes just months after Varjo unveiled its Aero headset and Teleport solution, and the most recent iteration to the Reality Cloud platform would provide technologies to facilitate the Metaverse.

Psychic VR Lab, KDDI Team Up for XRScape AR Adverts

Leading telecoms firm KDDI Corporation and Psychic VR Lab unveiled it planned to launch its platform to create and distribute, XRScape, for marketers and advertisers.

The platform will offer brands digital advert solutions for their products by placing interactive AR content anchored to real-world geocached locations.

MOHAP Launches UAE’s Health Metaverse Portal

The Dubai Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has joined the digital space race with its new Metaverse platform built for the health and wellness of its citizens, it announced at a regional event.

MOHAP’s platform aims to free up in-person services by allowing greater access to health services for residents, who can speak with real customer service agents for their queries in the Metaverse.
