Digital workflow streaming platform Alteon announced on Monday it had opened support for virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) creative projects. Revealed after the announcement of Apple’s Reality Pro headset, the new offering will allow users to store, collaborate, and preview a host of 3D formats.
Following Apple’s official announcement at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), Alteon and its creative content users will ramp up support for the cloud-based XR infrastructure. The new solution is vital for facilitating no-code immersive content across devices, including, headsets, smartphones, PCs, and laptops.
With Alteon’s latest solution, users can view their 3D assets in physical environments. This will provide interoperable tools for projecting mixed reality (MR) content via USDZ and other formats.
Other file types supported on the platform include RAW files, including Blackmagic Design RAW, Apple ProRes RAW, and ARRIRAW. Alteon’s LaunchPad space for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) will also provide drag-and-drop minting tools for digital assets. This is compatible with Opera Cryotp Browser.
Alteon Debuts Support for Apple Reality Pro Headset
Alteon’ content creation platform USDZ, the optimal file format for Apple and Pixar content and potentially for the upcoming Apple Reality Pro device. Alteon’s cloud-rendered approach is set to leverage Apple’s iOS ecosystem for low-latency, streamlined creative workflows.
The Apple Reality Pro, the upcoming Meta Quest 3, and many others can tap Alteon’s turnkey productivity suite to develop immersive media projects. The platform will provide metadata, meta tags, user permissions, and other file details for quick access to key data.
It will also boost collaboration among colleagues and clients, where creatives can link files in the cloud. Users can also password-protect their files and set expiry dates for added security.
New Alteon Hires Push XR Ecosystem Growth
The news comes shortly after the New York City-based company appointed Brian Meaney to Head of Product. The veteran executive holds over 18 years of video product design at Apple. He has also worked four years at Magic Leap to develop the firm’s user experience capabilities.
XR understands Alteon will leverage Meaney’s expertise to build Apple and Magic Leap product ecosystems. He will also steer Alteon’s direction amid the growing number of enterprise-level solutions on the market.
Alteon has appointed meany along with Sam Miller, Magic Leap Co-Founder and NASA Technologist. Miller will offer the company advice on its direction, leveraging his expertise in over 300 patents and AR technologies.
The National Association of Broadcasters Show previously received awards for the 2023 Product of the Year and Best of Show in Las Vegas.
Currently, the platform is among a few capable of managing mainstream digital assets, collaboratively for native support across Apple devices.
Alteon Apple Reality Pro Expansion Comments
Meaney explained in a statement that Alteon’s latest solution “means creatives will finally be able to access their content wherever they like—doing the work they need to, when they need to.”
However, he added that “simply uploading files isn’t enough.”
He concluded: “Alteon has incredible potential to enhance these projects, becoming a ground-floor collaborator for 3D artists to tell stories, create experiences and showcase the limitless possibilities XR has to offer.”
Additionally, Miller stated that the enterprise had the “opportunity to make the lives of every XR creator and production professional better.” Alteon could achieve this milestone by “consolidating their workflows into a universal space,” he added.
Miller concluded:
“There are very few content management systems designed to handle scene descriptor files and interactive content, especially for creators using tablets and mobile devices with limited storage. Alteon has the potential to become a one-stop cloud solution for XR media creators working remotely.”
Matt Cimaglia, Co-Founder and Chief Executive, Alteon restated his company’s commitment to “supporting a diverse range of multimedia content creators.”
He explained further,
“We believe in empowering creatives with the tools they need to push boundaries and unlock new possibilities. With USDZ support, Alteon enables users to harness the transformative potential of augmented and virtual reality, revolutionizing the way we create and experience media. This is just the beginning of our commitment to stay at the forefront of technological advancements and drive innovation in the industry”
XR Resurges with Interoperability Plans
Alteon’s Apple Reality Pro debut comes after a PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) report found that the immersive technology industry may potentially add $204 billion by 2030. Additionally, XR could contribute up to an estimated $1.5 trillion USD in revenues across industry verticals.
To reach this goal, companies have been working jointly to develop creative content for the growing XR industry. Numerous firms like ARuVR, Moth+Flame, and NVIDIA have incorporated generative AI features in their technologies.
Ongoing skills shortages across industry sectors and the rise of GenAI have led to a sharp demand for human-centric immersive experiences. Also, efforts to design no-code solutions aim to democratise XR creation across sectors and greatly expand access to developers from all backgrounds. Working together, these aim to tackle content demand across entertainment, training, education, retail, and other high-demand industries.
Furthermore, Apple’s Reality Pro headset is expected to facilitate this as an enterprise content creation platform. Following Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook’s announcement, creatives across the immersive media space can leverage Apple’s Reality Pro, the upcoming Meta Quest 3, the current Quest Pro, Pico 4 Enterprise, and HTC Vive’s EliteXR devices.
