Extended reality (XR) entertainment firm holoride announced a retrofit device for installing its virtual reality (VR) system in any vehicle at the CES 2022 in Las Vegas this week.

The lightweight, compact device is the size of an Amazon Alexa and can accommodate any vehicle.

It weighs less than half a pound and fits on a vehicle’s windshield. Gamers can use the device for 14 hours on a single charge, or indefinitely with a USB-C or USB-A cord.

In addition to its light form factor, it accommodates two headsets at the same time.

The full package costs $799 and includes the retrofit, an HTC VIVE Flow headset, a one-year subscription, and safety straps. Those seeking individual retrofits can purchase them for $199.

holoride’s will deploy its award-winning gaming platform across the automotive industry to power the ‘Motorverse,’ according to a company executive.

Nils Wollny, holoride’s Chief Executive and Co-Founder, said in a statement,

“Now, any vehicle can serve as your gateway into holoride’s adaptive virtual experiences where each new ride becomes the blueprint for your next immersive adventure”

Elastic SDK Powering the Motorverse

holoride’s latest iteration segues from its inclusive Audi vehicle systems and features Bluetooth connectivity to stream motion and location data.

Additionally, the platform’s “Elastic Content” adapts to vehicle changes in speed and direction to avoid motion sickness and deepen immersion.

holoride’s updated catalogue includes the game Pixel Ripped 1995: On the Road, designed by Emmy Award-winning gaming studio ARVORE. ARVORE Chief Executive Ricardo Justus said his company loved to challenge its gaming creations with new VR technologies.

He added,

“With holoride’s technology, we could explore creating a game in a totally new environment in a very innovative way, so we decided to explore a version of our most successful game to a whole new environment in a moving vehicle, creating a quite unique experience in Pixel Ripped 1995: On the Road.”

The Next Step for Serious Gaming?

holoride’s immersive platform offers an unprecedented medium for developing video games, building a novel ecosystem for serious gaming technologies. It offers an Android mirroring service for smartphones and a custom web browser for surfing the web, on the road.

Under the hood, the platform’s real-time data processing operates via its Elastic Content software developer kit (SDK). The engine of the Motorverse, it is the latest offering to merge the physical and digital worlds with innovative Web3 technologies.

The Munich-based firm also developed a new cryptocurrency, RIDE, to monetise content for creatives and users across its ecosystem.

German automotive firm BMW has also piloted similar technologies on its M Mixed Reality platform. It leverages real-time location data from the company’s M2 Coupe to merge immersive and real-world driving experiences. Varjo Technologies has supplied the platform with its industry-leading headsets.
