Meta Quest Pro Has 1-2hr Battery Life, Reports Find

0

Last week, at its Connect 2022 event, extended reality (XR) technology firm Meta announced its long-awaited Quest Pro device.

Among other vital updates, Meta used its virtual stage to introduce its new mixed reality (MR) headset, among other XR technology updates. Meta announced it would open pre-orders for the Quest Pro on October 25 for $1.499.

The CEO and Co-Founder of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, highlighted the enterprise potential of the device. The CEO exclaimed how the Meta Quest Pro contains the hardware and immersive applications required to support workplace operations.

Despite the Meta Quest Pro containing incredibly impressive specifications like a redesigned optical stack, new dimming hardware, and self-tracking touch controllers, the device’s battery life has hindered the luxury workplace product.

Reports confirm that the Meta Quest Pro’s battery life only lasts 1-2 hours, slightly less than the previous Quest model, which clocks in at 2-3 hours of battery life.

The Meta Quest Pro does not use replaceable batteries like its predecessor. The device has a charging dock that replenishes the headset’s battery and controllers.

Meta is selling its latest device for gaming, working, and socialising. The firm is developing Horizon Worlds, a Metaverse platform which accommodates social gatherings like live events and remote working.

Despite this, it appears that with the Quest Pro’s short battery life, users will not spend prolonged periods using Meta’s socially focused spatial computing applications.

What are the Workplace Alternatives?

Despite the massive popularity of Meta’s portfolio of immersive hardware, many other XR hardware firms are readying up to distribute VR/MR devices that go head-to-head with the Menlo Park-based firm.

Notably, Bytedance-owned Pico Interactive recently confirmed its latest MR headset, which aims squarely at Meta with an incredibly competitive $430 market price.

The device also has a longer battery life of 3 hours. The Pico 4 MR headset has equally competitive specifications, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor, 8 GB of RAM, a 105-degree field of view, colour passthrough, and 4320 x 2160 resolution.

Additionally, Pico built its device for enterprise as well as entertainment. The firm works closely with partners such as Strivr, Accenture, and Qualcomm to create efficient workplace solutions.
